I am told that the timing belt on a 2002 Ford Focus has a shelf life of 10 years or 100,000 miles. Is this so?

I only ask because it has bust at 58,000 miles, and would like to know if this is under warranty from Ford.

It has a full service history.|||it is true the focus belt will last 100,000 mile if you look up autodata it will tell you there but i would say to change it at 80,000 to be on the safe side

i work at a parts place and have been told by many mechanics.

one of the garages we supply to is a ford garage and the lad there knows a lot about fords|||every 40,000 miles my bro has got a focus|||It only has a 'shelf life' before it is fitted, when it is in the garage on the shelf. If you mean working life of it, I would change it about 10,000 miles before recommended. Check in the hand book.|||No way mate way to long try70 000km more like it. that will be about 40 000 miles|||Not true. Timing belts on most cars last only up to 60,000 miles. Some cars and trucks like Nissans, Hondas and Isuzu Rodeos last up to 90,000 miles.|||they don't have a shelf life really and my hubby says its about 75 or so|||Timing belts are more like 40K miles!!!! you have been told a load of rubbish.
