What is the life expectancy of 1997 mazda b2300 timing belt?

Timing belt should be changed at about 60.000 km of usage. that is an average of 2.5-3 years of moderate usage of the car.

Be careful, if you dont know how long has it been installed, and u get the car recently, i advise u to change it for your peace of mind!

If Timing belt is cut while u r driving, it can damage the engine,,,SEVERELY|||Not sure on the mileage-usually 60,000 miles. Think some Honda models have a longer mileage interval. But, there is also a time frame in years-usually 5-6 years as rubber degrades over time. When a timing belt snaps, usually there is major engine damage as the engine pistons are still spinning up and down out of relationship to the valves. So, some of the valves will be coming down while the pistons will be going up. These two components will then collide. Very expensive engine damage. Some engines with timing belts are what you call non-interference fit engines. They have cutouts in the tops of the pistons so that if the timing belt snaps- the valves do not slam into the top of the pistons. I don't believe you have one- think you have a regular interference fit motor. You are over the limit on the years, (probably over 60,000 miles too). Get a Gates timing belt or get original factory timing belt from Mazda dealer-also throw on a new belt tensioner. Seems to me that Gates had a kit with a timing belt packaged with the proper tensioner at one time. Ask around all the auto parts stores or do web search and buy online. If you have mechanically inclined friends with tools or you yourself are mechanically inclined-get a Haynes manual for your car at any decent auto parts store and do it yourself -save yourself a good chunk of money.Do not put a cheap timing belt on it. Either factory Mazda or Gates-and don't forget tensioner. Also, check your belts and hoses-probably needs them. Other things neglected- last antifreeze flush and coolant change, pcv valve, air filter, fuel filter, brake flush, distributor cap %26amp; rotor, spark plugs, transmission fluid and filter change.|||a mazda b2300 is the same thing as the 2.3l ford ranger and its about 70,000miles at the latest
