What is the appropriate life of a serpentine belt on a Chevrolet Suburban?

A belt can last 100,000 km +. It depends on the climate, if debris comes between it and the pullies, etc. If the tensioner is worn, loose or misadjusted the belt can slip on the accessories causing it to wear out prematurely. Proper tension and periodic checks are very imprtant. If if breaks, you will lose your water pump (engine damage) power steering (ever tried to turn the steering wheel on a 'burban with the engine off??? LOL) alternator (what runs your electrical systems) Air conditoner, etc.

If the belt is too loose, your accessories will not be driven properly and the belt will wear out very quickly. If it's too tight the belt will also wear out prematurely and you will overexcert the bearings in the accessories (not good). I hope this answers your question.
