To anyone who is black belt level:Was getting your black belt the proudest moment in your martial arts life?

I hear lot of black belts say that is the proudest moment getting the 1st dan .|||It was at that point in my life. Since then I have had several others including:

Graduating from College

Finishing my military career with distinction

Getting my Godan (Master) rank in Okinawa

Being promoted to Hachidan (8th Degree)

Being awarded the title of Shihan

Getting Married

and many more...|||There is a lot of hype of earning a black belt. And in today's world of the McDojo's, it means even less than it once did.

Yes, it is a goal all aspiring martial artist have when the start out. And when you get there, you do have such a feeling of accomplishment. However, you also come to realize (if you are wise), that it really is only the beginning. A black belt doesn't mean you become an all knowing, wise "master" and it does NOT mean you become "ten feet tall and bullet proof".

All it really means is you've graduated from Kindergarten. And now the real learning begins.

Be well.|||Yes, because it meant I was no longer a child, and could have the respect of others and learn the more complicated methods and theories.

Although that was in that stage of life, and I'd already graduated high school, I'd already completed bootcamp, and I was doing well professionally.

The most recent proudest moment would go to being told I have a script to sell to Hollywood.|||I would have to agree with that to a point. After a short time though you realize just how much you don't know and it puts everything in perspective.

I would compare it to a climber, you work hard and finally make it to the top only to realize you weren't even on the Mountain, but only on a foot hill with the real peak yet to climb.

A first degree Black belt means that you have learned the basics enough to start learning your true Art.|||At the time it was since for me there were a lot of struggles and a lot more obstacles involved than for the average person in making it to black belt. From time to time I still look back and wonder how I ever managed and I am proud I never gave up.

I am past my shodan now and there are new goals and many new things to learn which when I achieve them I will be just as proud with the full knowledge that after that there will be more and so on. Despite all the struggles, the sweat and the tears I have come to enjoy my journey as much as reaching the goals (just like reaching the goal of black belt at one time) along the way.|||Of course it was a proud to be able to have a black belt and it was the national team coach was testing me. but the real journey began after that. It still feels like i have a lot to learn and it really is like that. Being Black Belt means that you are ready for that Martial Art you have been practiced. It doesn't mean that you have finished everything. Knowing that, I still do not feel completely proud. But maybe a time comes and I feel like I am really good at it. When that time comes, I will be really proud of my Black Belt.|||No.

Being nominated for the Hall of Fame was my best martial arts moment. The thought of being mentioned for my contributions to martial arts. I didn't actually get the hall of fame honors. But I was awarded honorable mention.|||i started karate at 10 years old it took me 6 years to reach dan grade. training 3 times a week plus practise at home. our father watched us every lesson he knew where we were going wrong in our training it was like having your our instructor at home. but when i pass my 1 dan it was the best feeling ever it was a 3 hour test. the respect i got from my instructor was brill. i was his first dan so it was a bit special for him to. it really improved my training.|||the belt mean nothing i see people with these black belt that do not earn the level .

the colour of the belt often give false impression of just how good the student is|||nope, it was when I knocked out my sensei and gave him a concussion. It was much more of a challenge then simply getting a black belt|||The moment will come with a desperate dan.|||It's a tie between that, and the first time I was able to land a clean strike against my instructor.
