What is life really like in Eastern Nevada/Western Utah?

I just did a road trip and I drove through eastern Nevada/western Utah. Going through i-80 and coming back on highway 50. Well something just inspired me about it. I mean seeing people in cowboy hats and belt buckles just spoke to me. I see myself living there. But I'm wondering what is life REALLY like out in these areas. I'm sure its not dancing sunflowers like in the movies.|||Very beautiful area but not a lot going on except some ranching
