Whats more dangerous, not wearing your seat-belt, or being parked on the side of the freeway getting a ticket?

-

Police can pull you out of traffic and pull you over – putting your life at risk in the process – more-so than not wearing your seat-belt.

D a lot of people and officers get hit by cars while officers are writing tickets for seat-belts|||Parked at the side - I heard several stories of good samaritans being knocked over.|||Technically, the risk of injury is greater when getting pulled over. But, if you're involved in an accident, the chance of death is FAR higher when you don't wear a seat belt. Besides, any good driver can pull over on a highway safely, and the police have measures in place to prevent possible injury. If you crash while not wearing a seat belt, chances are that you'll be ejected out the front windshield, where your face will take the brunt of the impact.

I have heard a few stories about cops getting hit, but the law states that all vehicles must, if possible, keep at least one lane between them and any emergency vehicles.|||Police are thoroughly trained in the nuances of traffic-stops. If you've been pulled over a couple times, you may have noticed that the officer will follow you for a period before "lighting you up". They don't do this to mess with your mind -- they're looking for a safe place to perform the stop (and possibly doing their thing to make sure you're not an armed desperado with 15 warrants). If you're stopped in a place where you feel unsafe...put on your four-way blinkers, and SLOWLY proceed to a place you do feel safe. This is something of a last-resort, though -- you save this for situations like, "I don't believe this is a cop, and I think I'm about to be attacked". Realistically, the police officer knows the area, has a valid reason to stop you, and is taking far more risk than you are. Simple reason: notice how they stay behind you? If someone *were* to barrel down on you, its the cop who's going to get hit -- and this does happen.

Oh, crap. You specified "freeway" -- again, cop's gonna take the hit if it happens, and they're going to have to STAND next to your car -- but compared to a seatbelt? Hmm. Actually, you're probably right that being seated in a motionless vehicle at the side of a limited-access highway is more dangerous than any given few minutes of not wearing a seatbelt.

So next time you get pulled over on the highway, put your belt on ;)|||Not having a seat belt resorts to the other 1 so its both the risks in 1. while the other is on its own so not having a seat belt is worse. Yeah wear a seat belt and you won't get pulled over and wont have to complain although i get wear your coming from however if they don't enforce the law no 1 will wear there seat belt and also every time they fine you the government gets more money.|||Its never about safety its about $$$$.
