My dad decided to put some spray on my fan belt to "pro-long the life of it". Since he did this, it's been making a horrible squealing/wurring noise. It wasn't making a noise prior to the spray and the fan belts not that old. Will the noise eventually stop (i've done about 50 miles since the spray was applied and it's not got any better) or will I need to do something?
Cheers.|||Don't ever spray any crap on your belt.Buy another new belt and clean all the pulleys with brake cleaner.Adjust it to the proper tension. Its that simple|||Don't let your dad near your car again, any small child should know not to spray anything on any belts, it'll only cause them to slip which is what is happening now. I imagine he's probably used a lubricant such as wd40 which is just pure idiocy given that belt and pulley systems work on friction.
If you do spray brake cleaner on anything as has been suggested, don't get it on the belt as it will cause it to perish and make sure it all evaporates before refitting a belt.
I like the cement powder idea, I'll have to remember that one for the future.|||the spray left a residue on the belt that is causing it to slip. try another belt cleaner. if it don't work, take the belt off and clean belt and pulleys. inspect belt for cracks, worn spots...ect. replace if needed. good luck.|||Is the belt tensioner good?, if it is you need to replace that belt and tell your dad to stay away with his spray bomb.|||sling it, replace it, check tensioner.|||the spray is making it slip , try %26amp; dry it off as well as you can.............|||You have received some good advice from other members. I was wondering, is your dad Irish.|||i own a garage ...cement dust is very good could try talc ...but should never put anything on it ..more than a 50-50 you will need to replace|||ya need a new belt
